Rushdie slams British press in German interview

BERLIN (Reuters) - Author Salman Rushdie was quoted on Monday as saying he believed some of his critics in the British media were disappointed he had not been assassinated under an Islamic death order.
In an interview with Germany's Der Speigel weekly, Rushdie also said the cost of security for his protection was less than the 11 million pounds ($16 million) reported in the British media. He said he paid more in taxes than his security cost.
