More than 22 years ago Iran va Jahan (Iran and the World) was formed in Paris as a weekly publication with the aim of informing Iranians outside their homeland. The first issue appeared on September 1st 1980 (10 Shahrivar 1359) and from then on every Monday without interruption for the next five years. With the support of our loyal readers we published 256 issues.
As a result of the internet and the fast-paced changes in media communications we are able today to reach our readers around the globe. For this reason we thought it useful to explain to our readers why we decided to go on-line with our publication. But after careful consideration and having referred to our first issue of IRAN VA JAHAN and reading its editorial we concluded that neither of what we had said, nor our goals and message had changed in the past two decades. And this is what we said then:

Yesterday, following recent accusations in Kayhan which is
controlled by the Islamic Ministry of Information
(Vezerat Ettelaat),Behzad Nabavi,himself under public scrutiny
for making millions of dollars after a number of shady deals
in Petropars, launched a surprising counterattack from his seat
in the Majlis against Kayhan and its "hidden backers."
Behzad Nabavi, the deputy from Tehran,alleged that another
scenario similar to the one hatched at the Conference of Berlin
which ended in the arrest of numerous prominent intellectuals
and politicians, was being prepared by the regime in order to
bring down the Majlis on charges of corruption.

Reason's Behind Rafsanjani's Retreat

Following domestic and international outrage the Office of
Hashemi Rafsanjani (Daftar Tahkeem Nezaam) issued
a statement denying Rafsanjani's much publicised remarks that
he had threatened Israel with "nuclear war." Many observers
constitute this as a retreat by Hashemi Rafsanjani.
In an editorial published in "Nowrooz" it was suggested that
Hashemi Rafsanjani's remarks during Qods Day in which he
threatened Israel with "nuclear war" had "seriously harmed"
Iran's national interests.
